LEAP staff put best foot forward for Macmillan fundraiser
Helen and Kat complete West Highland Way in just four days
“Tired and blistered but so proud of what we have done.” That’s the feeling Helen Jilks and Kat Hannon have now they have completed the West Highland way in four days – just short of walking a marathon every day.
LEAP duo Helen and Kat joined 26 others, including Kat’s partner Matt, over the May Bank Holiday weekend to raise money for Macmillan Cancer as part of this year’s Team McKeown challenge, which arranges the annual 96 mile walk from Milngavie to Fort William.
TIME FOR LUNCH… Helen (l) and Kat take a well-earned lunch break at Beinn Ghlas.
Helen, Kat and Matt raised more than £3,000, which was a handsome boost to the team’s overall total of more than £30,000!
Kat said: “We have trained hard for this walk for nearly six months now, but nothing can really prepare you for the highs and lows physically and mentally that the walk throws up.”
Helen said: “I still can’t quite believe I’ve done this. It’s the most amazing challenge I have ever set myself. Without the support of my husband, my fellow walkers and a never-ending stream of life-saving jelly babies I might not have made it!”
