LEAP Chair Gilbert Feron awarded BEM in New Year Honours 2026

King’s honours list awards Gilbert for services to older people and the community

Massive congratulations go to Gilbert (Gilly) Feron, LEAP’s Chair, who has been awarded a British Empire medal in the King’s New Year Honours List 2026.

 

The announcement said:

 

Gilbert Feron receives a BEM for services to the community in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire. Gilbert has dedicated himself to improving the welfare of older people and the wider community in Cambuslang for over 30 years.

 

As well as more than 30 years’ volunteering with LEAP, Gilly has been a pivotal part of many charities and associations:

 

•         Halfway Tenants Association

•         Combined Community Health Project (Gorbals)

•         SEAL Gorbals;

•         CHAF;

•         Particip8;

•         North Halfway Hall;

•         Halfway Community Council; and

•         Seniors Together.

 

Stuart McGregor, LEAP’s Executive Director said: “This recognition is a fitting reward for more than 30 years’ service to the community, and I would like to thank Gilly, his wife Jean, and his family for their continued and valuable support to LEAP and the wider Halfway community.

 

“We look forward to many more years working alongside Gilly to enhance the lives of older people in our community.”
