Volunteering with LEAP

Would you like to volunteer with LEAP? We could not offer the services we do without our small army of volunteers. And you could join them.

All of our befriending and handyperson services and friendship groups and are delivered by volunteers, supported by a small team of staff development officers. Working this way means as much funding as possible goes into our front-line services.

Each year LEAP’s befriending and handyperson volunteers, based throughout the South Lanarkshire area, provide tens of thousands of hours support to our clients, with our handyperson volunteers carrying out more than 2,000 jobs, from changing a lightbulb to assembling flat-pack furniture.

All of our volunteers are fully trained and have been cleared to work with protected vulnerable groups.

The training includes full induction training plus development sessions tailored to suit your volunteering role. This training can cover subjects as varied as:

  • Dementia awareness;

  • Mental Health first aid;

  • Emergency first aid;

  • Falls awareness;

  • Chest, heart and stroke awareness;

  • Equality and Diversity;

  • Dealing with loss;

  • Front and back of shop training;

  • Green champion;

  • Merchandising;

  • Carbon literacy in communities; and

  • Grief and bereavement.

And our volunteers meet regularly with their development officers to discuss their role and highlight any areas they want to develop further.

This investment in our volunteers has won LEAP an Investing in Volunteers Award in 2016 and again in 2019 and 2022.

We are proud of this recognition, of the fact that many of our volunteers give years of service to the charity and that many get as much benefit out of volunteering as the people they support.

As well as volunteering as a befriender, handyperson or R:evolver, you could also support us in:

  • Office administration;

  • Public relations;

  • Marketing;

  • Social media;

  • Film making; and

  • Photography.
